Barbara Yawn, MD is an Advisory Board Member for AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis.
Barbara P. Yawn, MD MSc is family physician with extensive experience in respiratory related research and primary care COPD education. She started practice as a rural physician and then moved to a larger community where she opened and lead a department of primary care research that obtained many grants from AHRQ, NIH, CDC and the pharmaceutical industry. She was a member of the NHLBI EPR-3 group that wrote the 2007 asthma guidelines and has served on WHO guideline committees for asthma and COPD. She is a frequent presenter at national and international primary care conferences on topics of chronic respiratory disease. Dr. Yawn has over 400 peer reviewed publications and is the Editor in Chief of Respiratory Medicine Case Reports.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Yawn has worked on developing and helping implement screening process for COPD in primary care. That work lead her to join the CAPTURE team as an expert in primary care, practice based research with experience in large screening studies and rural health. Currently she is serving as the Chief Science Officer of the COPD Foundation in addition to be an investigator or consultant to several large COPD and asthma studies.
